SPECIFICATIONS FOR FLOAT CUM BOOST BATTERY CHARGERS
(SUITABLE FOR 48 VOLT BATTERIES)

A.C.INPUT SUPPPY :

1. 160 TO 270 Volts rms A.C., 50Hz, Single Phase, upto 3KW output.
2. 280 to 465 Volts, Line to line, 50Hz, Three Phase, above 3 KW output.

D.C.OUTPUTS :

a) Voltage :

1. In Float Mode: 52 Volts (nominal) suitable for 48 Volts lead acid battery i.e. 2.17 Volts per cell in FLOAT mode. In C and V models, this is settable from 48 to 53 Volts on front panel.
2. IN CHARGE mode: Upto 59 Volts maximum i.e. 2.46 Volts per cell in CHARGE mode. In C and G models. Special provision is made to reduce this voltage to a safe level at road terminals by inserting series pass elements, to prevent damage to load.

b) Current Capacity :

Total output current capacity can be anything from 1 to 200 Amps at present.

VOLTAGE REGULATION:(in FLOAT mode)

Better than 2% for variation from no load to full load and within permissible input mains supply voltage (without connecting battery).

RIPPLE CONTENT:(in FLOAT mode)

Less than 2 milli Volts rms / 1 milli Volt psophometric upto 10 Amps output models and less than 5 milli Volts rms/2milli Volts psophometric from 12 Amps output and above models.

A specially designed speech filter ( as recommended by C-DOT) is provided in series with a separately brought out speech output to block noise (likely to be generated by DC to DC Converters & digital switching circuit pulses) reaching analogue speech circuits and telephone instruments, in almost all models except V.G CY(I), CY(IB) models.

FLOAT TO CHARGE & VICE-VERSA CHANGEOVER :

The Change-over from Float to Boost and vice-versa occurs automatically by sensing battery voltage and this is achieved entirely by solid state circuitry. When the battery voltage is below 51 Volts, the charger goes in Boost charging mode and battery voltage starts rising. At 56 Volts, the Charger automatically switches over to Float mode, maintaining the trickle current flowing through the battery and supplying required current to load at 52 Volts.

PROTECTIONS :

a) For input: Fuse of appropriate rating is provided in all models for protection against fault inside the charger.

b) For output:

1. Against Overload / short circuit (at charger output): A fast acting solid state circuitry protects battery charger. When its total current capacity is exceeded at battery and/or load output terminals in all models. In addition, for WX, SX(S) and X models, overload protection is provided for each current path separately to prevent battery drawing more than its rated charging current. When load is drawing less than its normal current.
2. Against Overvoltage: Solid state circuit with electromagnetic trip is provided to protect load as well as components inside the charger against overvoltage at output.
3. Against Reverse Polary of Battery: Diode-fuse combination is provided to prevent accidental reverse battery voltage reaching either the charger circuitry or the load by instant open circuit caused by fast fuse action. Due to very polarity is connected erroneously in reverse direction.

INDICATIONS:

a) For Input: Presence of input mains supply is indicated by a green neon jewel in all models.
b) For Output: LED indications are provided in all models for under and over voltage at output(i.e. at load terminals)
c) For Battery Charging Modes: LED’s are provided for indicating Boost and Trickle charging modes in C model and for Charge and Float modes in rest of the models.
d) For Rectifier Failure: LED is provided to indicate fault in rectifier section of the charger, which also lights up when mains supply voltage is very low or totally absent.
e) For Reverse Polarity: LED is provided to indicate accidental reverse polarity connection of battery, during Battery installation, maintenance or replacement.

AUDIBLE ALARMS: Audible alarm in the form of interrupted beeps. Sounding for approximately ½ to 1 minute, is provided in all models for ‘Rectifier fall’ condition i.e. failure of rectifier section in the charger or failure of mains supply. In addition, in WX, WX(S) & X models , an alarm sounds for approx. 10 seconds in the form of interrupted beeps, when input mains supply voltage is below 160 or above 270 Volts i.e. when the input UV/OV protection operates. This alarm also sounds as assurance tone by a single beep in all models when mains supply resumes.
In WX, WX(S) and X models, a special alarm is provided, which sounds continuously, when battery under voltage is about to occur (in most cases due to absence of mains supply for a very long duration), till the D.C. supply to load is totally cut off.

TERMINATIONS:

a) For input: Mains cord of adequate current carrying capacity of approximately 2 metres length is provided with appropriate 3 pin plug top for all models having single phase input. Terminal block of adequate current carrying capacity is provided for models having 3 phase input.
b) For output: HCL type polarized Round Shell Power Connectors are provide for connecting battery and load to the Battery Chargers of 3 to 12 Samps rating in almost all models.
